Beit Midrash offers a well-rounded Judaic curriculum that combines core classes (required) and electives in the content areas of History, Israel, Torah & Text, Jewish Living, Hebrew, Liturgy & Practice, Philosophy and the Arts.

Don't miss student/parent orientation on Sept. 6!

For more information or questions regarding the Beit Midrash Hebrew High School program, please contact Lisa Goldstein, Federation Jewish Community Educator.

8th Grade

Our 8th grade curriculum is a prescribed program that includes classes in the history of pre-1948 Israel, understanding the various movements within Judaism, and Tikkun Olam, repairing our world. These classes are described in greater detail in the course descriptions and are identified as the 8th grade track.

9th Grade

Ninth graders are required to take two core classes, and have the opportunity to select two elective courses. One required class covers the history of Israel since 1948 and will include discussions on the Mideast conflict. For the student who wants a greater challenge, we also are offering this class at an Honors level. Students must signify the level of the history course preferred.
For the second core class, students may choose between study of the Holocaust (Survivor), or study of genocide in the global arena (Hear No Evil, See No Evil). Ninth graders should indicate on their registration forms which of the two classes they prefer, and then select one elective from each hour of each semester, indicating their order of preference. Students will be assigned two electives from among their choices.

10th and 11th Grade

Tenth graders from the Temple and eleventh graders from the Center must register for their respective Confirmation class. In addition, they may select one elective each semester (Temple – first hour; Center – 2nd hour). 10th and 11th graders who are not involved in Confirmation may take electives for all classes.

12th Grade and Post-Confirmation

Twelfth graders and 11th graders who are post-Confirmation may take all electives. There are several new classes being offered this year. In addition, a few classes will include text study in Hebrew to challenge even our seniors.

Early Edition

This year-long course is designed for students who wish to study above and beyond the Beit Midrash curriculum. It meets each week from 6 – 7 pm, prior to the First Hour class schedule.

Coming soon...

The Beit Midrash Committee, consisting of both lay and professional leaders from each of our partner congregations, is committed to providing the highest quality Jewish education possible for our community’s teenagers. To that end, over the course of the coming months, the committee will be working to establish an Honors Program that will challenge those students who want more in-depth, intensive Jewish learning. We plan to speak with teens, parents, teachers, rabbis and synagogue educators in order to learn what kind of program would most benefit our students. We hope you will answer the call and share your thoughts with us; your input will be most valuable as we proceed.
